A rather specialized, parallel-copying program that was developed to get around a performance bug in an on-board ethernet controller: a single process could get no more than about 66 kilobytes of data through the network per second, but multiple processes could push that limit much higher.

With Octopus, each of multiple processes retrieves a selected file or directory and begins to copy it. When it is finished, it requests the next file or directory. This provides a simple and relatively optimal distribution of the copying process.

The GUI is based on JFC/Swing.
